Compatibility · the score
Love and relationship explorer
Pick two signs for a playful comparison whose arithmetic stays open. No source in this corpus states a compatibility percentage: not Ptolemy, not Alan Leo, not a single modern publisher. Every such number you have seen was invented by whoever printed it — and so is this one. The difference is that this one tells you exactly how it was computed and where it turns out to be wrong.
Why this number disagrees with every other one
Take every pairing the modern sources rate, and average our score within each verdict. If the published verdicts were about personality, the two would line up.
| published verdict | pairings | our mean score |
|---|---|---|
| high | 29 | 68% |
| mixed | 1 | 68% |
| low | 36 | 65% |
3 points
That is the entire gap between the pairings every compatibility guide calls high (68%) and the ones they call low (65%), measured on attested personality traits.
Which is the answer. The published verdicts are not about personality — they are a function of the angle between two signs, and the grid proves it with no exceptions. Our number and theirs disagree because they are measuring two different things, and only one of them is measuring what it says it is.
What is wrong with our number too
It assumes similarity is compatibility. That is a choice, not a finding. A perfectly reasonable rival model says opposites complement each other, which would invert this whole scale. Another says some axes want similarity and others want difference. We picked similarity because it is the one you can check against the table above without also having to accept a second theory.
It rests on axis loadings that are one editor’s judgment. Which trait pushes which way on head / heart is defensible and is not the only defensible reading. That is why the per-axis breakdown is shown rather than just the total: if you disagree with a loading, you can see exactly how much of the answer it moved.
And it is still a number about signs, not about people. Nothing here is a claim about you or anyone you are thinking of.
