Gan-Zhi · a calendar before a personality test
The twelve animals
The animal is the visible half of a larger clock. Twelve earthly branches advance beside ten heavenly stems, producing a sixty-year cycle—not twelve isolated personality types.
What this phase can claim
The Hong Kong Observatory publishes the ordered stems, branches, animal correspondences and sixty combinations. Wang Chong’s Lunheng shows the animal/branch pairings in an Eastern Han text; an eighth-century set at the Met supplies material evidence.
That establishes a calendrical system. It does not establish that every Rat-born person is clever or every Ox-born person patient, so this phase does not print those claims.
The twelve
A year has two names at once
2024 was not simply Dragon. It was Jia-Chen: a yang-wood heavenly stem paired with the Dragon’s Chen branch. The animal repeats after twelve years; the exact stem-branch pair repeats after sixty. Open the complete mechanism →
