584283 connects two day counts
Add the correlation to a Maya day number to obtain its Julian Day Number. The arithmetic is simple; the historical identification of the two epochs is debated.

Why this value
GMT 584283 is widely used, matches the Smithsonian Living Maya Time examples, and keeps the traditional highland count in view. It is also the convention already selected for Bodhastra. That makes it a defensible reproducibility choice, not proof that alternatives are impossible.
The one-day questions are real
Correlation proposals in the GMT family differ by a few days, and inscriptions can distinguish changes at sunset or sunrise. A Western civil date begins at midnight. This converter labels that mismatch rather than pretending a date-only form settles it.
