Five limbs, then a whole regional almanac
The name Panchanga points to five calendrical quantities. A Bengali Panjika commonly places those beside planetary positions, observances, ritual times and other regional material.
The five limbs
TithiThe lunar day: one of thirty 12-degree divisions of the Moon–Sun elongation.
VaraThe weekday.
NakshatraThe Moon's position among twenty-seven equal sidereal sectors.
YogaA separate angular sum of the sidereal Sun and Moon, divided into twenty-seven parts.
KaranaHalf of a tithi.
