moondle is the daily puzzle in the wordle shape, built on a music catalogue rather than a dictionary. the reason a daily puzzle works and an endless one does not is the shared answer: there is exactly one song a day and everybody is on it, so a score is worth comparing and a result is worth posting.
the hint ladder is the design. six blind guesses at a 200-song catalogue is not a game, it is a lottery — so each wrong answer buys information, and the ladder is ordered from least to most revealing. by the fifth guess you are hearing the record, which means nobody who is genuinely trying should ever finish on zero.
